Relax, It’s just a Fever

Since bringing Phoenix home I have been a slight nervous wreck, checking his temperature and listening to his heart often. He of course is annoyed by all of this and looks at me, as if to say, “Mom. You’re being ridiculous.” I absolutely dread the day that he gets sick. I don’t want to be at the mercy of a doctor’s office, which will most likely just prescribe me the latest antibiotic that will only wash his gut clean of all bacteria. It’s the “kill everything to fix something” mentality of the medical field that scared me. You see this mentality with antibiotics, cancer, and many other illnesses. I also knew that if I didn’t make a plan now while he is in perfect health that I would panic when he does catch a cold and find myself at the doctor’s office picking up that new and improved antibiotic. I kept telling myself I need to find a homeopathic doctor. They would solve my problems for me. But it wasn’t until I became sick with a 103-degree fever and the worlds worst headache that I actually started doing my own research.

I found tons of information online. I couldn’t believe that I had never heard of any of this, no doctor had ever made any of these suggestions to me, which why would they. Every homeopathic site I found completely negated my knowledge about fevers. I was always told to reduce fevers immediately; they can cause brain damage, or the higher the fever the more serious the illness. Fevers are the enemy. What I found in my research is that by reducing the fever you actually prolong the illness. Fevers are the body’s way of fighting off the illness and the fastest way to feeling better is letting the fever take its course. PUT DOWN THE TYLENOL. Every site I found said that fevers are not dangerous and should be allowed to take their course. One site even suggested that children who were allowed to have fevers were less likely to have cancer as adults.

The information I found on Tylenol was alarming. The long-term affects of Tylenol use are daunting. It has been shown to increase risk for developing asthma by incredible percentages. The research I found on this is not causal but the correlations cannot be ignored. As someone who has asthma, like most women in my family, I want to do everything I can to not pass that on to my son. If that means putting down the Tylenol then so be it. Asthma is the least of the side effects that can be caused by Tylenol, or more specifically acetaminophen. This article makes it very clear that Tylenol is not as safe as we believe and should be taken with much more caution that most currently do.

Obviously, having a fever is not comfortable and is usually accompanied with aches and pains. I found that Cell Salts are a great natural way to reduce these aches and pains while still allowing the fever to take a somewhat natural course to fight off the illness in good time. Cell Salts are a compilation of 12 different mineral combinations, which our cells need to function normally. When we become ill our cells are out of balance in these minerals, taking these Cell Salts helps to rebalance and ward off the illness. Not to mention they are extremely affordable. I am so relieved to have found this information.

As a mother I now feel responsible to be armed with my own knowledge and information about health and wellness so as to protect my son from many harmful, yet widely used, medications. I would encourage all mothers to take their health and their family’s health into their own hands. All the information you need is right at the tip of your fingers. Start googling your questions and soon you will become an expert in the area. With the Internet today we are able to have the same research and knowledge that doctors do. Don’t get me wrong, there is a time and place for doctors and hospitals, I know Phoenix wouldn’t be here with out them. But dependency on them is where I draw the line. I want to know they will be there when I truly need them, but I will not be another blind sheep that follows them into the fire.

The blog linked below has been extremely helpful in my research. Here are two links to the posts about Tylenol and Fevers.
